Rosenberg & Co. Opens Solo Exhibition of Contemporary Painter Maureen Chatfield

MAUREEN CHATFIELDPATTERNS IN TIME

June 15 – September 17, 2016

Opening reception on Wednesday, June 15 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm

"Some paintings may start out as a visual impression, others as a moment or experience and some as a rhythm or pattern in time." - Maureen Chatfield

June 1, 2016 - Rosenberg & Co. is pleased to present Patterns in Time, its second solo exhibition of the works of contemporary painter Maureen Chatfield. Following her spectacular solo debut at the gallery last summer, this new exhibition will present Chatfield's most recent paintings.

Maureen Chatfield: Patterns in Time is an invitation to contemplate the ephemeral, everyday beauty hidden in plain sight. Highlights of the exhibition include Mies (2016), a sizeable work of semi-circular lines and interlocking, swirling swathes of blue, recalling the ocean's eddies and pools. Offset by creamy, cumulus puffs and bright tinges of apricot and orange, Mies exemplifies Chatfield's virtuosic handling of paint and color. On a much smaller scale, a series of petite paintings, such as Updraft (2016) and Beach Lane (2016), capture the fleeting traces of light as the summer sun sweeps over semi-abstracted landscapes or extends its rays through the unseen windows of intimate interior scenes.

Inspired by both music and nature, Maureen Chatfield's oeuvre encompasses quiet meditations of pastel tones and softened forms, as well joyous and exuberant explosions of color. By creating works that drift between abstraction and representation, Chatfield offers a way of seeing rooted in the emotive interstices between reality and imagination. Like the early Abstract Expressionists, her work transports the viewer to this transcendent realm of color and light, where anyone can serve as witness to the patterns in time.

Maureen Chatfield (b. Carmel, NY) has studied at numerous institutions including the Art Students League, New York; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; Fashion Institute of Technology, New York; and Hunter College, New York. She teaches painting at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, New Jersey and lives and works in rural New Jersey. Maureen Chatfield is represented by Rosenberg & Co.

Rosenberg & Co. renews a salon-style space with a focus on the highest standards of connoisseurship and expertise. With an emphasis on the secondary Modern art market, Rosenberg & Co. also continues the legacy of working with contemporary artists.
